👥 Who This Course Is For
This course is ideal for students who have studied Tagalog at least for a year or have a strong foundation in basic grammar, sentence structure, and verb conjugation. It’s a great next step for learners who can handle everyday conversations and want to strengthen fluency, expand vocabulary, and build confidence navigating more complex linguistic situations.
📖 What You’ll Learn
In this course, students will explore intermediate-level structures through guided conversation, short readings, and situational practice. We’ll review grammar when needed and introduce more sophisticated vocabulary and idiomatic expressions commonly used in Filipino culture.
🌍 Themes and Topics May Include:
Family, relationships, and social dynamics
Current events and Filipino media
Everyday life and routines
Travel, food, and Filipino traditions
Polite language and cultural nuance

Each class includes:
Structured speaking and listening practice
Readings or dialogues with vocabulary support
Cultural insights and discussion
Light grammar review and exercises
Occasional homework to reinforce learning

👩🏫 About the Instructor
Joy was born, raised, and educated in the southern Philippines, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts in Filipino. Before moving to the U.S., she worked as a public school language teacher. Since relocating, she has spent over a decade training military personnel and U.S. Foreign Service Officers in Tagalog through language services on the East Coast.\n\nHer work has ranged from curriculum development and government consulting to standardized test creation—all with a passion for clarity, cultural immersion, and real-world application. Joy believes that language is not just a tool for communication, but a gateway to understanding people and the culture they live in.

A minimum of three students is required for the course to run the full six weeks.
If only two students enroll, the course will still take place but will be shortened to five weeks.
