For learners ready to build on the basics and start forming full conversations

Format: Online (Zoom), small group
Schedule: Weekly sessions

👥 Who This Course Is For
This class is ideal for learners who have taken an introductory Tagalog course or have a basic foundation in the language. If you already know common greetings, simple questions, and a small set of everyday vocabulary, you’re ready to move forward. This course helps bridge the gap between beginner and high beginner fluency.

📖 What You’ll Learn
In this low beginner course, we’ll focus on building full sentences, understanding question and answer patterns, and developing basic conversational skills for common situations. You'll learn to describe people and routines, ask for and give information, and begin to use verb conjugations more confidently.

🌍 Themes and Topics May Include:

  • Introducing yourself and others

  • Talking about family, work, and hobbies

  • Shopping, numbers, and daily schedules

  • Likes, dislikes, and basic opinions

  • Everyday Filipino expressions and politeness

💬 What to Expect
Each class includes:

  • Simple guided dialogues and conversations

  • Vocabulary building through themed units

  • Light listening and speaking exercises

  • Practice with beginner-level grammar

  • Cultural context to help make sense of the language

✅ By the End of the Course, You’ll Be Able To:

  • Use complete, basic sentences in Tagalog

  • Understand and respond to common questions

  • Begin using actor-focus verb forms in the present and past

  • Feel more confident in casual conversation

  • Engage with Filipino culture through language

👩‍🏫 About the Instructor
Janice is a licensed professional teacher with 13 years of experience teaching Tagalog language and Philippine literature. She holds a Master of Arts in Panitikang Filipino from Cebu Normal University and is currently pursuing a PhD in Filipino Language at the University of Mindanao.

In addition to her academic expertise, Janice has served as a Regional Trainer for the Department of Education and taught licensure exam review classes since 2018. She is also an active researcher and conference presenter, having shared her work at the International Conference on Multidisciplinary Filipino Studies. Janice brings creativity, warmth, and adaptability to the classroom, specializing in personalized instruction that meets students where they are.

💡 Important Notes

  • The class will meet online from May 10 to June 14.

  • A minimum of three students is required for the course to run the full six weeks.

  • If only two students enroll, the course will still take place but will be shortened to five weeks.
