Format: In-person small group (3–6 students)
👥 Who This Course Is For
This course is designed for students who already have a solid beginner foundation in Spanish and are ready to advance their speaking, listening, and comprehension skills.
If you can handle everyday situations—ordering food, asking for directions, introducing yourself and others—but want to move toward more natural, confident, and fluid communication, this class is the perfect fit. Whether you’re learning Spanish for travel, professional opportunities, or personal enrichment, this supportive small-group class will help you reach the next level.
🎯 What You’ll Learn
In this course, you’ll build on your existing Spanish skills by practicing:
Expressing opinions, preferences, and past experiences
Asking and answering more complex questions
Using present and past tense verbs in conversation
Talking about future plans and intentions
Engaging with authentic dialogues at natural speed
Expanding vocabulary for travel, culture, work, and social life
🧠Each class also includes cultural insights—from food and traditions to history and customs—that bring the Spanish-speaking world to life and strengthen your ability to use the language in real contexts.
✅ By the End of the Course, You’ll Be Able To:
Speak more confidently and spontaneously in everyday conversations
Use both present and past tenses with increasing accuracy
Express opinions, plans, and personal experiences
Understand longer, faster-paced dialogues
Be ready to transition smoothly into the high-intermediate level
👩‍🏫 About the Instructor
Ana is a Peruvian native and currently resides in El Cerrito, California. She holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of California, Davis. Her teaching philosophy values diversity and incorporates student’s needs. Moreover, her pedagogy is focused on the development of cultural identity and linguistic competence. Ana has been teaching Spanish as a second language, Spanish to heritage speakers and Latin American literature for more than 20 years.Since she moved to California in 2002, Ana has served as a Lecturer at California State University East Bay, Visiting assistant professor at University of San Diego, Associate instructor at UC Davis, Spanish tutor at Berkeley City College, and Spanish instructor in different high schools in the SF East Bay. Ana is a passionate educator committed to inspiring her students to appreciate learning and to value the unique cultures that they themselves bring to the community at large. She is a published author of poetry including four books of her own and has published additional poems and essays in multiple collaborative collections. In her spare time Ana enjoys cooking, reading poetry and fiction, writing poetry, going to the beach and hiking in nature.
