This course is perfect for students who already feel comfortable with basic Spanish and are ready to expand into longer sentences, more fluid conversation, and a broader range of vocabulary.
If you can talk about yourself in simple terms, handle everyday phrases, and understand basic spoken Spanish—but want to express yourself with more detail, accuracy, and confidence—this class is your next step. Ideal for learners studying Spanish for travel, professional use, family connections, or personal enrichment.
🎯 What You’ll Learn
In this High Beginner Spanish course, you’ll strengthen your foundation while moving into more expressive, practical language skills, including:
Talking about past activities using pretérito (simple past)
Expressing future plans and intentions
Describing experiences, opinions, and preferences in more detail
Asking follow-up questions to keep conversations flowing
Understanding and using a wider range of regular and irregular verbs
Listening practice with more natural, everyday Spanish
More vocabulary for travel, social situations, and daily routines

👩🏫 About the Instructor
Ana is a Peruvian native and currently resides in El Cerrito, California. She holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of California, Davis. Her teaching philosophy values diversity and incorporates student’s needs. Moreover, her pedagogy is focused on the development of cultural identity and linguistic competence. Ana has been teaching Spanish as a second language, Spanish to heritage speakers and Latin American literature for more than 20 years. Since she moved to California in 2002, Ana has served as a Lecturer at California State University East Bay, Visiting assistant professor at University of San Diego, Associate instructor at UC Davis, Spanish tutor at Berkeley City College, and Spanish instructor in different high schools in the SF East Bay. Ana is a passionate educator committed to inspiring her students to appreciate learning and to value the unique cultures that they themselves bring to the community at large. She is a published author of poetry including four books of her own and has published additional poems and essays in multiple collaborative collections. In her spare time Ana enjoys cooking, reading poetry and fiction, writing poetry, going to the beach and hiking in nature.
