Course Dates:

This in-person Russian class for low intermediate students is held at our Berkeley location at:

📍 2161 Shattuck Ave, Suites 234–235, Berkeley, CA

Classes meet weekly in small groups of 3–6 students, creating a highly interactive, supportive learning environment.
If only two students enroll, the course will still run but may be shortened slightly to maintain an intensive, focused learning experience.

This location is easily accessible for students commuting from Oakland and San Francisco via BART or car.

About the Instructor

Olga was born and educated in Belarus and has a strong academic background in languages and pedagogy. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in French and English Languages from the University of Mogilev in 2008 and a Master’s Degree in Pedagogical Sciences from Minsk Linguistic University in 2009.

She also holds ABD (All But Dissertation) status in Belarusian Language and Literature. Her dissertation, “Actual Style Traditions of Women’s Russian-Speaking Literature of Belarus (late 20th – early 21st centuries),” reflects her deep engagement with Russian-language culture and literary traditions.

Olga speaks Russian, Belarusian, French, and English, and has also studied Latin, giving her a broad, multilingual perspective that enriches her teaching. Her classes are clear, engaging, and culturally informed.

Who This Course Is For

The Low Intermediate Russian class is designed for students who have studied Russian for 8–12 months and already have a basic command of the language.

To enroll, students should be able to:

  • Talk about themselves and their interests in Russian

  • Use the present, past, and future tenses

  • Have some familiarity with the Russian case system

  • Understand the difference between verbs of motion (on foot vs. by transport)

This course is ideal for learners who want to move beyond the beginner stage and become more confident and fluent in real conversations.

What You’ll Learn

The main goal of this course is to help students strengthen their speaking and listening skills while building on the grammar and vocabulary they already know.

You will:

  • Practice oral comprehension through dialogues and listening activities

  • Improve your ability to speak in longer, more natural sentences

  • Expand your vocabulary for everyday situations

  • Review and strengthen the Russian case system

  • Use the genitive, accusative, and dative cases more confidently

  • Describe events, plans, and experiences with greater accuracy

Lessons include interactive speaking exercises, short presentations, and practical dialogues to help you communicate more fluently.

By the End of the Course

You’ll be able to:

  • Communicate more fluently in everyday situations

  • Use a wider range of vocabulary and sentence structures

  • Apply key Russian cases with greater confidence

  • Understand longer spoken dialogues

  • Transition smoothly toward full intermediate-level Russian
