(On Zoom) High Beginner Russian Wednesday 7:10pm - 8:10pm PST (January 7th to February 11th) The class size is 3-6 students. Instructor: Olga Zueva-Zalivko
About the instructor: Olga was born and educated in Belarus. She got her Bachelor’s Degree in French and English Languages at the University of Mogilev in Belarus in 2008, Master’s Degree in pedagogical sciences at Minsk Linguistic University in 2009. She holds ABD in Belarusian Language and Literature (Dissertation title: „Actual style traditions of women’s Russian-speaking literature of Belarus (late 20th – early 21st centuries) “). Olga speaks Russian, Belarusian, French, English and she also studied Latin.
High Beginner Russian is the perfect next step for students who have completed a Low Beginner Russian course or have studied Russian for several months and feel confident with the basics. This course builds on previously learned skills, helping students expand their vocabulary, refine their grammar, and develop greater fluency and accuracy in conversation.
In this course, students will strengthen their grasp of Russian grammar by exploring additional verb conjugations, more noun cases, and an introduction to aspect (perfective and imperfective verbs). They will broaden their vocabulary to cover a wider range of everyday topics, such as shopping, travel, hobbies, and making plans. Listening and speaking activities will focus on understanding longer dialogues, responding more naturally, and expressing opinions in simple terms.
By the end of the course, students will be able to participate in conversations on a variety of familiar topics, understand short authentic texts, and handle a broader range of real-life situations in Russian. This level is ideal for learners ready to move beyond the basics and start building the skills needed for intermediate-level communication.
