Low Beginner Russian – Online class

This class will meet online from June 25th to August 13th. Please note that there will be no classes on July 23rd and July 30th due to the instructor’s travel.

Classes meet weekly in small groups of 3–6 students, creating a highly interactive, supportive learning environment.

About the Instructor

Olga, originally from Belarus, is a passionate language educator with a strong academic background. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in French and English Languages (University of Mogilev), a Master’s in Pedagogical Sciences(Minsk Linguistic University), and is ABD in Belarusian Language and Literature.

Her research focuses on Russian-speaking women's literature of Belarus, giving her deep insight into both language and culture. Olga is fluent in Russian, Belarusian, French, and English, and has also studied Latin, offering students a broad, multilingual perspective. Her teaching is clear, engaging, and culturally rich.

This course is designed for low beginners who already have a basic foundation in Russian. You may have completed a complete beginner course or studied Russian in the past and want to review and continue building your skills.

What You’ll Learn

In this level, you’ll build on the foundations of the complete beginner course and begin using Russian more actively in conversation. You’ll review key grammar structures while expanding your vocabulary and speaking ability.

You’ll learn to:

  • Speak about your daily routine and schedule

  • Ask and answer simple questions with more confidence

  • Talk about your family, work, and interests

  • Use basic verbs in the present tense

  • Describe places, objects, and people

  • Understand short dialogues and simple spoken Russian

Cultural insights remain an important part of the course, with short discussions about everyday life, social customs, and communication styles in Russian-speaking countries.

By the End of the Course

You’ll be able to:

  • Hold short, simple conversations in Russian

  • Ask and answer everyday questions

  • Understand basic spoken Russian in familiar contexts

  • Use core grammar structures with more confidence

  • Read and write short texts in Cyrillic

  • Continue to the next level with stronger speaking and listening skills
