This online Low Beginner European Portuguese course is designed for students who already know a few basics—common greetings, simple phrases, or a bit of vocabulary—and want to continue learning in a structured, interactive environment.
It’s the perfect follow-up to a complete beginner course or for those with some exposure to Portuguese through travel, apps, or prior study.
🎯 What You’ll Learn
In this course, you’ll develop practical communication skills for real-life conversations in Portuguese. You will:
Expand vocabulary related to daily activities, travel, and personal information
Practice forming complete sentences and asking/answering everyday questions
Use key verbs in the present tense
Improve pronunciation through guided speaking practice
Understand and apply basic grammatical structures
🧠 Grammar Topics Include:
Present tense of regular and common irregular verbs
Sentence structure and word order
Simple negation and question formation
Introduction to gender, articles, and adjective agreement
Through engaging class activities, speaking practice, and cultural insights you'll gain the confidence to use Portuguese in everyday situations.
✅ By the End of the Course, You’ll Be Able To:
Participate in basic conversations and introduce yourself
Ask and answer common questions about your routine and preferences
Use essential verbs and vocabulary in complete sentences
Begin understanding native Portuguese speakers in slow conversation

👩🏫 About the Instructor
Elsa Alves was born in Bragança and has lived in Lisbon since 2010. She holds a degree in Portuguese Studies and a master’s in Portuguese Literature, where she wrote a dissertation on language and gender hybridity in Raduan Nassar’s Lavoura Arcaica, awarded the grade of 19/20. She has been teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language (A1–C2) for over nine years, adopting a multidisciplinary approach that combines grammar, speaking, writing, and authentic materials such as advertisements, news articles, restaurant menus, songs, and literary texts tailored to each level. Elsa has taught intensive courses for international students, prepared learners for the CAPLE and DIPLE exams, and, alongside teaching, works as a proofreader—most recently revising Manual da Técnica da Máscara by Filipe Crawford. With a background that extends beyond teaching, Elsa has collaborated with cultural and literary magazines such as Gerador, Nervo, Lote, and Tlön. In 2022, she published her poetry book O sol abate-se, within the Claro Enigma series. Recognized for her dedication, dynamism, and passion for language and literature, she is committed to sharing her love of Portuguese with her students.
