This class will meet on Zoom from August 15th to September 19th.
About the instructor: Michelle was born and raised in the Caribbean and developed a passion for languages at a young age. She continued to dedicate her studies to Spanish and Portuguese in college. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Languages at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and studied abroad in both Brazil and Portugal. She then went on to pursue her Master’s Degree in Spanish and Portuguese Linguistics from UCLA, where she also taught Spanish and Portuguese college courses. She has worked with many different students at different levels while teaching and tutoring, to help them achieve their learning goals. She loves to travel and learn about different cultures. In her spare time, she likes to read, cook, watch movies, go to the gym, and travel when she gets the chance.
About the class: The European Portuguese Beginner 1 class is tailored for complete beginners who have little or no prior knowledge of the Portuguese language. This course is ideal for those who want to learn the basics of European Portuguese for personal or professional reasons.
Throughout the course, students will be introduced to the fundamental aspects of the language, such as basic vocabulary and grammar, pronunciation, and commonly used phrases in everyday conversations. They will learn the Portuguese alphabet, as well as the correct pronunciation of vowels, consonants, and diphthongs.
Additionally, students will learn basic grammar concepts, including verb conjugation, sentence structure, and the use of articles and prepositions. They will also learn how to engage in simple conversations, including introducing themselves, asking and answering basic questions, and expressing basic opinions. Furthermore, they will learn how to navigate everyday situations, such as ordering food in a restaurant, asking for directions, and making small talk.
By the end of the course, students will have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of the Portuguese language and will be able to communicate in simple everyday situations. They will have the confidence to continue their language learning journey and progress to more advanced levels.
