This class will meet on Zoom from August 12th to September 16th.

About the instructor: Michelle was born and raised in the Caribbean and developed a passion for languages at a young age. She continued to dedicate her studies to Spanish and Portuguese in college. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Languages at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and studied abroad in both Brazil and Portugal. She then went on to pursue her Master’s Degree in Spanish and Portuguese Linguistics from UCLA, where she also taught Spanish and Portuguese college courses. She has worked with many different students at different levels while teaching and tutoring, to help them achieve their learning goals. She loves to travel and learn about different cultures. In her spare time, she likes to read, cook, watch movies, go to the gym, and travel when she gets the chance.

About the class: The Brazilian Portuguese Beginner 1 class is designed for complete beginners who have little to no previous knowledge of the Portuguese language. This course is ideal for anyone interested in learning the basics of Brazilian Portuguese for personal or professional reasons.

Throughout the course, students will be introduced to the basic aspects of the language, including basic vocabulary and grammar, pronunciation, and common phrases used in everyday conversations.

Students will learn the Portuguese alphabet, as well as the correct pronunciation of vowels, consonants, and diphthongs. They will also learn basic grammar concepts such as verb conjugation, sentence structure, and the use of articles and prepositions.

In addition to vocabulary and grammar, students will learn how to engage in basic conversations, including introducing themselves, asking and answering simple questions, and expressing basic opinions. They will also learn how to navigate everyday situations, such as ordering food in a restaurant, asking for directions, and making small talk.

By the end of the course, students will have a basic understanding of the fundamentals of the Portuguese language and will be able to communicate in simple everyday situations. They will have the confidence to continue their language learning journey and progress to more advanced levels.
