👥 Who This Course Is For

This course is designed for students who already have a very basic foundation in Japanese. If you have completed a complete beginner course, studied Japanese in the past, or already know basic greetings, Hiragana, and simple sentence patterns, this class will help you continue building your skills with confidence in a supportive small-group environment.

📖 What You’ll Learn

Students will strengthen their foundation in spoken and written Japanese while expanding their ability to communicate in everyday situations. You’ll review and build on basic sentence patterns, expand your vocabulary, improve your Hiragana reading fluency, practice listening comprehension, and become more comfortable speaking about daily routines, preferences, schedules, family, food, shopping, directions, and simple plans.

Each class includes live, interactive instruction, clear explanations of grammar and vocabulary, guided speaking practice, listening activities, continued reading and writing practice, cultural insights, and light homework to reinforce learning between classes. The small-group format allows students to receive personal attention while practicing Japanese in a relaxed and encouraging setting.

By the end of the course, students will be able to use a wider range of everyday Japanese expressions, participate in short conversations about familiar topics, ask and answer practical questions, read Hiragana more comfortably, recognize additional common written forms, and understand more slow, clear spoken Japanese.

👩‍🏫 About the Instructor

Mari was born in Gunma Prefecture, north of Tokyo, and graduated from Meiji Gakuin University in Tokyo with a degree in French literature before studying International Economics in Toronto. She has lived and worked in Tokyo, Toronto, Singapore, Boston, and the Bay Area, and has over six years of experience teaching Japanese to both children and adults. She recently completed the Japanese Language Teacher Training Course at Seisa University in Yokohama and earned her certification as a Japanese language teacher. Mari creates supportive, engaging lessons tailored to students’ levels and goals, combining clear instruction with humor, cultural insight, and an encouraging teaching style.
