A fun and structured introduction to French for teens in grades 6–12
Held in person in Berkeley, accessible to students from Oakland, San Francisco, and surrounding areas

Thursdays, 3:40 PM – 4:40 PM PST
September 11 – October 16
Location: 2161 Shattuck Ave, Suites 234–235, Berkeley, CA
Class size: 3–6 students
If only two students enroll, the course will still run but will be shortened to five weeks instead of six.
🚇 Located in downtown Berkeley — just steps from BART and public transit for convenient access from neighboring cities.
👥 Who This Course Is For
This in-person Complete Beginner French course is designed specifically for middle and high school students (grades 6–12) who are brand new to French. Whether your student is learning French for school, future travel, or cultural interest, this small-group course offers the perfect introduction.
No prior experience is required — just curiosity and a willingness to speak, learn, and participate.
🎯 What Students Will Learn
Students will build a strong foundation in spoken and written French through age-appropriate lessons, group interaction, and engaging cultural activities.
They’ll learn to:
Introduce themselves and share basic personal details
Talk about family, interests, and school life
Use numbers, days of the week, and months of the year
Ask and answer simple questions
Begin forming basic sentences and using essential expressions
🧠 Grammar Topics Include:
Definite and indefinite articles
Gender and number agreement
Subject pronouns and present tense of être and avoir
Regular -er verbs (e.g., parler, aimer, étudier)
Basic sentence and question formation
Each class includes interactive speaking activities, listening games, and bite-sized grammar explanations, helping students feel confident and excited about learning French.
✅ By the End of the Course, Students Will Be Able To:
Hold short conversations using greetings and common expressions
Ask and answer simple personal questions
Understand sentence structure and key vocabulary
Continue confidently into a Low Beginner French course or school-based French class

This course is led by experienced French instructors with MAs and PhDs in language and literature and years of experience teaching French to youth. With a class size of just 3–6 students, every learner gets the personal attention they need to thrive.
